Uncle John Reinholt

Uncle John underwent prostrate surgery Sept. 14, 2010 and per Alberta Straw letter is doing okay. Don't know the form of surgery.

Alberta Straw

Alberta has a re-occurrence of cancer in the form of skin cancer. Learned of it in letter dated 9-15-2010.

Previously she was treated for breast cancer and went into remission.

Eric's ITP

Eric's platelet # has gone up over about a 10 day period to 137. Very good news.

Eric ITP Update

Yesterday Eric received another transfusion of platelets. It brought his count up some but not enough for the doctor to release him from the hospital. He will received another transfusion today and hopes to get to go home today. He would then continue treatment as an out-patient.

Aunt Polly - Stroke

Aunt Polly had a "mini" stroke a few days ago - just learned it now.

She is home from the hospital and apparently doing pretty well.

Uncle Amos Update

Uncle Amos has been diagnosed with "small cell" cancer of the lungs. It had been thought the cancer had metastasized and the brain might be involved. Seems this may not be so.

Doctor feels there is a good chance the cancer can be put into remission with aggressive chemo therapy. Uncle Amos is "pumped" about that prospect.

Uncle Amos told me at the reunion earlier this month that he is 87 years old.

Eric's ITP Update

Platelet count today = 2 - still very low - mildly better news but not enough progress from treatment to date.

Will be admitted to hospital today for Phase 2 treatment - Rituxan and perhaps more platelets. From what I can see abut Rituxan, it is used when there is a problem with the autoimmune system.

Eric plans to take time off to deal with this disorder.

Eric's ITP

Today, August 23, 2010 Eric visited his doctor - his platelet count today is 6 (6,000) - his count when first diagnosed (Aug. 19th) was 1 or (1,000). Hard to tell what it means but there seems to be a better reaction than that experienced during his first experience with ITP.

Eric's ITP

Thursday, August 19, 2010 Eric was diagnosed with ITP - a relapse.

He received a very aggressive treatment, sort of picking up where they left off about four years ago. Hope is what worked last time will work right away.

Clare off to School

Clare departs for Carthage College September 25, 2010. Go Get'em Clare!

Uncle John Reinholt

Uncle John will have prostrate surgery August 31, 2010.

He has several severe conditions: Had quadruple bypass surgery at least 25 years ago with resultant conditions; is diabetic and has lost some eye sight; has a form of cancer that covers his intestinal area and grows into intestines and stomach (apparently dormant at this time); now prostate surgery.

He is 79 years old but still is pastor to his parish, working daily.

Mary Fran

Also learned Saturday, August 21, 2010 Mary Fran will have foot surgery September 7th. As I understand it she has a severe arthritic condition required the surgery, six months recovery, then the same surgery on other foot.

Uncel Amos

Learned Saturday, August 21, 2010 that Uncle Amos Peterson has been hospitalized in Indianapolis. Three liters of fluid were removed from his lungs. Am not aware of prognosis.
